ON STUDENT CONCERNS ABOUT THE FINAL JURY OF ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIOS

The Jury of architectural design projects is the principal method of formative assessment to students. It received growing interest in the last few years. From the teacher’s point of view, it is a mean to align the learning objectives of the design process to the learning curriculum, and to reach the most achievable learning outcomes. However, few publications in the literature are there about the students’ point of view. Various studies have indicated that, there have been few negative feedbacks from some students about the final Jury of architectural design studio.
There are relevant problems to be addressed when dealing with the final Jury of architectural design studio in KAU, especially about conformity of the Jury questions to the architectural program objectives, respecting the student's opinion, assuring fair assessment, and giving the student an objective tool to assess his work for future.
The main objective of this paper is to understand students’ opinions of the final Jury of architectural design studios, and to find the deficiencies of the final Jury on the students, in order to improve the properties of that jury. To achieve this goal, the research methodology goes through three steps. First, is to shed light on literature review of the properties and criteria of the final Jury of architectural design studio. Second, is to carry out a field study to investigate the student’s assessment of final Jury. Third, is to set recommendations that could improve the final Jury assessment in architectural education based of this study.
